When you hand us the responsibility of completing Japanese legal translation work on your company’s behalf, we will make sure we protect client confidentiality, such as by signing binding non-disclosure agreements. 4 fascinating facts about the Japanese language

Japanese uses 3 different writing systems

These are Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana. Each of the three writing systems is used interchangeably, and sometimes even in the same phrase. While Kanji and hiragana are often combined to make words and phrases, katakana is utilized for foreign loanwords and to emphasize certain words.

Japanese is not Chinese

Japanese language used to be only spoken and not written. This changed, however, when Japanese scholars began learning to read classical Chinese and borrowing Kanji symbols to match the equivalent Japanese words. Later, hiragana was developed as a simpler alternative to the more difficult kanji.

There are no plurals in Japanese

The translator must depend on the surrounding words to determine whether a noun is singular or plural in Japanese. However, correct translation is sometimes further complicated by the fact that it is often unclear if a word is meant to be plural or single.

Politeness is a serious matter

In Japanese, there are 3 levels for politeness depending on the context. First, there’s Kudaketa, which is the “informal level”. Then, there’s Teineigo, which is a bit more polite yet simple. And then there is the more advanced Keigo which is a complex honorific speech system used to show respect.

Excellent subject matter knowledge

It is crucial that the translator be an expert in the field. Otherwise, they will not even know whether the document has been successful in its intended purpose. In addition, the target audience will have no trouble determining whether the translated text accurately conveys the original’s meaning.

High Punctuality and Quality Assurance

You need a translation service provider that can provide the translated document(s) on time and within the deadline. But before that, they must also subject each document to an extremely strict QA process to make sure it is completely error-free and ready to be handed over to the client.
